Vlado Martek (*1951) lives and works in Zagreb (Croatia).

The series of pre-poems produced in 1980 and in 1981 continues the works of elementary processes in poetry by putting in the foreground the decision to produce a work of art. Records: The Poem, I reject the metaphor, I give up all the content of poetry in order to produce a modern poem, Shall I write a poem or not, The poem can not be – recorded on all established backgrounds, including paper with perforations, blockades, etc., they represent poems pre-poems because language, the main exponent of content, has been reduced. … Read more

The »content« is the question (most often materialized) about the content and the snare of the metaphor, the story. Pre-poems require a commitment for or against; they do not precede poems, unless the artist’s commitment is something that precedes the work. The decision about art cannot be reached through language or content, it can be reached through absence from poetry as a system, through viewing from the outside.
